Intrapulse quenching of a hydrogen thyratron could be explained with several theoretical methanisms from different viewpoint. It sets a definite on the pulse width and the current of thratron, and results in instable operation. It has been observed that there different phenomena of the quenching for different conditions. Under normal operation conditions, the ignition delay and jitter will gradually increase in course of its operation, at the sama time the positive remaining voltage on the PFN will appear evidently and instably without increased reservoir voltage if a positive mismatch ia established. While hydrogen pressure reduces beyond a certain limit, the pulse missing named pulse to pulse quenching will occur and operation will be very instable. Some oscillograms are given.

At the “Xingguang II” facility under the condition of single-beam laser slanting incidence into a half-cavity target, the energy injection efficiencies for the half-cavity target and the hole target have been measured through a new experimental method. Closure velocities of injection hole under the condition of laser slanting incidence have been estimated. The experimental results show that under the same conditions the laser energy injection efficiencies for half-cavity targets are 10 percent lower than those for hole targets.

Abstract:
A large aperture random phase plate (RPP) for target-plane laser beam smoothing at 1.06m m wavelength was fabricated, by using large aperture exposure and dilute HF etching processes. The RPP’s clear aperture is f 250mm. The measured average step height is 1.060m m at 5 locations on the RPP, which has a relative deviation of 1.24% to the theoretical value. A focal spot with very sharp edges and nearly flat-top overall envelop intensity distribution was obtained at the focal-plane of a focusing lens. These results show the fabrication techniques for RPP is effective, and is easily scalable to even larger apertures.

The experimental study of the dielectric coating for deformable mirrors in COIL laser system is reported. The coating Sub/Ag(SiO2/HfO2)4/Air and Sub/Ag(YbF3/ZnS)3/air have been manufactured in high vacuum deposition chamber. The optical and physical properties of high reflectance dielectric coatings subjected to a large number of deformation cycles are determined. The reflectance of these mirrors is 99.90% and 99.87% respectively. The physical properties of the deformable mirrors have not been changed under deformable cycle 109 times. The thermal distortion and laser induced damage of deformable mirror irradiated with COIL laser are investigated. It is concluded that 1kw/cm2 laser power density is safe and reliable for these deformable mirrors in COIL laser system.
