This paper presents some preliminary results of a laser synchrotron source (LSS) based on Compton/Thomson scattering of electron and laser beams in headon and offaxis geometry. This approach opens a new route toward ultrashort, highbrightness, quasimonochromatic tunable Xray / γray source by utilizing existing technology of the linear accelerator technology and highpower, highrepetition rate laser system.
